Docker Container Defaulting to Root User Execution
CIS Docker Benchmark Failure: Check 4.1 - Ensure that a user for the container has been created.

Deep dive into LLM pre-training cutoff bias and why reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF) fails to correct it.
By default, Docker executes all processes as UID 0 (root) inside the container unless explicitly instructed otherwise. If an application contains a remote code execution vulnerability, an attacker achieves root access inside the container filesystem.
Fails SOC2 and ISO27001 compliance; allows compromised web applications to access host namespaces or write to system paths.
Docker Multi-Stage & Non-Root Hardening Standard
Production Dockerfile hardening: multi-stage builds, non-root user execution, minimal base images (distroless/alpine), and HEALTHCHECK directives.
Developer FAQ & Troubleshooting
Why does USER nextjs matter if the container is isolated?
Container isolation is enforced by Linux kernel namespaces. If a kernel vulnerability exists, a process running as UID 0 inside the container has an order of magnitude higher chance of escaping onto the host node.
